11 Million Reasons To Give: September Giving Challenge
September 15th is now being recognized as National Clothing Insecurity Day
The Giving Closet Project is raising awareness for the 11 million students across the U.S. who struggle with clothing insecurity β Across the U.S., 2 out of 5 children face clothing insecurity, a hidden crisis impacting attendance, confidence, and success in school.
At The Giving Closet Project, we see this same reality each and every day in the communities we serve.
In Duval County,
- Absenteeism has more than doubled since 2018β19, reaching 33% in 2025.
- Many students face additional hardships β 75% experience housing or financial instability, 50% live through family disruptions, and 25% endure health struggles or trauma.
In Palm Beach County,
- Chronic absenteeism is a major challenge, with nearly 39% of students missing 11 or more school days(Public News Service, 2024).
- Many absences are linked to unmet basic needs, especially the lack of proper clothing and hygiene products.
For too many, the lack of proper clothingcreates barriers to education, employment, and dignity.
The Giving Closet Projectβs Community Impact
The Giving Closet Project is part of the solution in our community, addressing the clothing and hygiene insecurities our students face everyday. For the last 9 years, we have broken barriers by providing thousands of local students and families with clothing, shoes, uniforms, as well essentials items to help them show up to school ready to learn.
We provide services to thousands of students each year through:
- Online Referrals: Ongoing, year-round.
- Emergency Walk-Ins: Weekdays during standard business hours.
- Partner Appointments: Scheduled weekly with approved organizations.
- Field Trips / Workshops: Scheduled year round.
This September, in recognition of National Clothing Insecurity Awareness Day, weβre launching the 11 Million Reasons to Give Campaign to raise awareness and provide resources directly to students in need.
Weβre inviting you to be part of the solution.
