Ten years ago, The Giving Closet Project was born from one simple belief: every student deserves the opportunity to succeed, regardless of their circumstances.

After spending 15 years as a public school teacher, I saw firsthand how something as basic as clean clothing, properly fitting shoes, or having access to essential hygiene items could determine whether a student walked into school with confidence or stayed home feeling defeated. I knew there had to be a better way.

What began in 2016 as a small, grassroots effort has grown into a community-powered nonprofit that has served more than 25,000 youth and families across Northeast and South Florida. Together with our partners, volunteers, donors, and advocates, we’ve helped restore dignity, remove barriers to education, and remind thousands of students that they are seen, valued, and worthy of every opportunity.

As we celebrate our 10-year anniversary, I find myself reflecting not only on how far we’ve come, but on the incredible community that made this journey possible. Every donation, every volunteer hour, every clothing drive, every dollar given, and every act of kindness has helped write the first chapter of our story.

Now, we stand at the beginning of something even greater.

This year, The Giving Closet Project entered a new chapter by moving into our new permanent home, a milestone that represents far more than a new building. It represents stability, growth, and the opportunity to expand our reach for thousands more youth and families who need us. It is the foundation from which we will build the next decade of impact.

The need has never been greater, and neither has our vision.

As we look toward the future, we aren’t simply asking for sponsorships, we are inviting transformational partners to invest in what comes next. Together, we can strengthen our infrastructure, expand access to essential resources, deepen community partnerships, and ensure that every student facing hardship has the support they need to thrive.

On Saturday, November 7, we invite you to join us for our 3rd Annual Rhythm & Roots Soirée as we celebrate ten years of compassion in action and launch the next decade of service. This evening is more than a celebration, it is an opportunity to become part of the legacy we are building together.
